The warning label
Drug ads explain possible side effects. Artificial intelligence (AI) should explain the risks before asking to read our private information. AI can help us write, learn, sort information, and plan. These guides show how to get that help while sharing less and keeping a person in charge.
Possible side effects of giving AI access:
- Depending on permissions, it may read mail and files beyond the task.
- Email, websites, invitations, and shared files can try to give it orders. Familiar senders can be compromised too.
- In some workflows, displaying a generated response can send information out before you press Send.
- Responses can be wrong, including links or contact details supplied by a scammer.
- Stopping is not undoing. Disconnecting does not automatically erase copies already received.
- An installed plugin or add-in may retain access after a task ends.
Before you share, install, or click Connect, ask: What private data can it reach? What untrusted content will it read? How could it send, share, or change something?
Before AI acts for you, find and test its Stop control. Stay nearby and verify that tasks, retries, schedules, and access really stopped. Keep a way to finish without AI.
